AirPAP
BiLEVEL ST — BiLevel ST (Spontaneous–Timed)
Supports spontaneous breaths and adds a timed backup breath when effort is missing.
Waveform
How it works
- A two-level positive airway pressure mode that supports the patient’s spontaneous breaths and, if no spontaneous inspiratory effort is detected within the set time, delivers a time-controlled mandatory breath.
- IPAP is applied during inspiration and EPAP during expiration.
- If no spontaneous inspiratory effort is detected within the set rate, the device starts a mandatory breath at the set respiratory rate.
Physiological basis
While supporting spontaneous breaths, a backup rate engages when breathing is inadequate. This secures both patient comfort and a minimum ventilation.
Adjustable parameters 9
Inspiratory Pressure (IPAP)
Pressure level applied during inhalation.
Expiratory Pressure (EPAP)
Pressure level applied during exhalation.
Inspiration Slope
Sets how quickly pressure rises to the inspiratory pressure.
Expiration Slope
Sets how quickly pressure transitions to the expiratory pressure.
Inspiration Sensitivity
Sensitivity required for the patient to trigger inspiration.
Expiration Sensitivity
Sensitivity required to cycle from inspiration to expiration.
Frequency
Number of breaths per minute.
Inspiration Time
Duration of the inspiratory phase.
Sigh
Applies 1.5× the inspiratory pressure once every 20 breaths.
