How it works

  • A two-level positive airway pressure mode that supports spontaneous breaths and works toward a target tidal volume.
  • If no spontaneous inspiratory effort is detected within the set rate, the device delivers a time-controlled mandatory breath.
  • EPAP is applied during expiration.
  • The IPAP value changes according to the patient’s lung compliance and airway resistance in order to reach the target tidal volume.
  • IPAP stays within the set minimum and maximum inspiratory pressure limits.

Physiological basis

It automatically changes the inspiratory pressure to maintain the target tidal volume. By adapting to changes in lung mechanics, it aims for more stable ventilation.

Inspiration Slope

Sets how quickly pressure rises to the inspiratory pressure.

Sets how quickly pressure transitions to the expiratory pressure.

Inspiration Sensitivity

Sensitivity required for the patient to trigger inspiration.

Expiration Sensitivity

Sensitivity required to cycle from inspiration to expiration.

Frequency

Number of breaths per minute.

Inspiration Time

Duration of the inspiratory phase.

Sigh

Applies 1.5× the inspiratory pressure once every 20 breaths.
